ASHEVILLE, N.C. (September 18, 2019) – After an extended pause, Fieldhouse Report is back this week and returns as the region’s college football teams are well underway. To the east in Chapel Hill, Mack Brown is leading a resurgent UNC Tar Heels program that is 2-1 through three games after winning just two games all of last year. UNC hosts Appalachian State (2-0) in Chapel Hill at 3:30 p.m this Saturday.

To the west, Western Carolina (1-2) snapped a nine-game losing streak when they defeated NCAA DII North Greenville at home last Saturday, 20-17. The area’s remaining football entries, Brevard and Mars Hill, have also begun their 2019 season campaigns. The Tornados had their opener against the Apprentice School cancelled due to persistent lightning in the area during last weekend’s game. The Tornados host Christopher Newport this Saturday in Brevard at 7:00 p.m.

The Mars Hill Lions (1-1) fell in their 2019 opener when they dropped a 63-21 decision to VMI (2-1) of the FCS on September 7. They followed up that loss with a 46-14 victory over St. Augustine’s (N.C.) (0-2).
