Fort Worth, Texas – Lousiana Tech senior kicker Jonathan Barnes made good on a 32-yard field goal as time expired to give his team a 48-45 Armed Forces Bowl win over Navy on Friday.
“To be given the opportunity to go out there and be able to put the ball through, meant a lot,” said Barnes following the game.
Bulldogs’ quarterback Ryan Higgins threw for 409 yards and four touchdowns before 40,542 at Amon G. Carter Stadium. Senior wide-out Trent Taylor caught 12 of Higgins’s offerings, good for 233 yards and two scores. Sophomore quarterback Zach Abey rushed for 114 yards and two touchdowns for the Midshipmen.
With the loss, an injury-plagued Navy squad dropped its final three games of the 2016 campaign and finished at 9-5. Lousiana Tech also finished the year at 9-5 and as Conference-USA runners-up.
