The Bethesda Big Train captured the Cal Ripken League 2016 championship on July 31 with a 4-3 victory over the Baltimore Redbirds. It snapped a four-year run by the Redbirds as league champions after the Big Train won the three prior championships.
The rivalry between the two teams may be the tightest in all of baseball, as evidenced again this year when the two teams completed the 2016 season with identical 32-13 overall records. The final two games of the best of three series were held at Calvert Hall’s Carl Crispino Stadium.
