Annapolis, MD – After the Mids split a doubleheader against Lafayette on Saturday, Navy sophomore George Coughlin shut the door on the Leopards (14-27-1) with a three-hit complete game shutout on Sunday. Coughlin (7-3) was backed by eight runs, as the Mids (36-18) advanced to the Patriot League Championship with an 8-0 victory at Max Bishop Stadium. He fanned five Lafayette batters while walking none.

Leadoff hitter and junior centerfielder Robert Currie earned his keep atop the lineup, going 2-3 and driving in a run. He had a busy day in center registering four putouts under mostly clear Annapolis skies.
The Mids needed the victory in the best-of-three series to advance. Strikeout ace Luke Gillingham had a rare rough outing* in game one on Saturday, departing early in what would prove a 10-8 Lafayette victory. The Mids showed their mettle in the second game, facing a lose-and-go-home scenario. They won convincingly, 12-0, to clear the way for Sunday’s decisive game.
